Achuar Nationality, which in its dialect means, the people of the morete palm, are an ancestral culture that has inhabited the Amazon for more than two thousand years, so they have an invaluable knowledge of nature and the employ of resources to live in a harmony with the environment.
Until the 1960s, they had barely made contact with the society, in ancient times they were nomads, and living with internal conflicts were common, however, today they live peacefully. Considered as warrior people, actually are mainly dedicated to fishing, hunting and agriculture.
The Achuar practiced polygamy; one man can have several wives, as long as he can give the necessary livelihood for their families. However, it is a tradition every time less common.
Nowadays, they are organized under the entity of the NAE (Achuar Nationality of Ecuador). They have binational presence, in Peru they are placed in Loreto and the high Amazon; in Ecuador, its territory is distributed in the provinces of Morona Santiago and Pastaza, within the latter, near the border with Peru, Kapawi Reserve is located, co-inhabited by 88 communities.
In Sharamentsa community, into the deepest of the rainforest, we found Achuar Lodge. The territory of Sharam, which in the Achuar dialect means Golden parrot, embrace 12,000 hectares, where more than 80% is primary forest, considered a private reserve of the Achuar millennial town.
The community, is formed by 150 people, approximately 60 are women, 40 are men and 50 are boys and girls. It is located on the shore of the majestic Pastaza River at 240 meters above sea level.
Achuar Lodge has 2 Blocks:
Block 1: Big cabin, that holds 2 rooms with twin beds each one, that can be joined in case of requiring double beds. In the middle hall there are 2 bathrooms and 2 independent showers.
Block 2: Big cabin with 6 rooms, arranged in the same way, each one with twin beds. In the middle hall there are 4 bathrooms and 4 independent showers.
Totally, Achuar Lodge contain 10 rooms. Maximum capacity is for 20 people in double matrimonial or twin accommodation, and for 30 people in triple accommodation. The navigation excursions are mainly made in rafts built by the Achuar’s own hands, in the traditional ancestral style, which will allow you to travel through time and get into the history of this town.

Once at Shell, guests will be received by our Achuar representatives and will be assisted for the flight. The plane will rise over the immaculate pristine jungle, on a 50-minute flight, arriving at the landing strip of the local Sharamentsa community, where they will be welcomed by the Achuar guides.
Lunch at Achuar Lodge.
Afterwards, guests will have the opportunity to relax, unpack and get a feel for the surroundings.
In the afternoon, we will have a quiet activity where guests can walk along one of the River beaches. Here, our guides will give guests an introductory orientation session with information about the rainforest and the Achuar culture, while enjoying a beautiful sunset.
At night after dinner, we will explore Pastaza river in search of nocturnal animals such as monkeys, alligators and birds. All this coupled with a fantastic starry sky.
Early morning: Our guides will escort guests on a 30 minute boat ride to reach one of the best natural attractions, the Claylick, where guests will see different species of parrots, macaws, and parrots such as the Cobalt-Winged Parakeet, Chestnut- Fronted Macaw, Yellow Crowned Amazon.
After breakfast guests can take a walk, approximately 2 hours with stops, where they will learn about medicinal plants of the area and tropical forest ecology.
Lunch at the Communitary tourism Center of Sharamentsa. Time to rest. Afternoon: guests will be able to explore Pastaza river in a traditional balsa wood, while looking at the local

wildlife such as the pink river dolphin. As the river is quite calm, swimming is completely safe. After dinner: guests can partake in a spectacular night walk, observing the many different kinds of insects and amphibians that are found around the lodge
Early in the morning we are going to participate in “Guayusada” ceremony and dreams interpretation. Later, guests will have the opportunity to finding and spotting the great variety of birds that the southeast Rainforest of Ecuador offers like Hoatzin, Aninga, Speckled Chachalaca, White Eared Jacamar, Cocoi Heron, Neotropical Cormorant, and the Great Egret.
Breakfast and departure for a full day activities: our guides will escort guests along the Tsenkush o Kawau trail and visit Guanchanza waterfall, which in english means “golden parrot”. During this time guests can learn about the forest and its benefits for the Achuar people. Our guides will also teach guests about Achuar hunting techniques and Arutam the spirit of the forest.
Picnic lunch in the forest. After lunch: guests will visit one of the Achuar communities that is located close to the lodge. This is one of our most popular activities offered in this reserve, because of the significant cultural contribution to the Achuar people. Guests will have a chance to live together a community and its members and purchase some traditional handicrafts. Return to the lodge followed by dinner.
After Traditional Typical dinner: cultural activities (legends in hammock house, traditional greetings around a campfire) Guests will also be able to learn the art of Achuar face painting and how it relates to their different activities.
In the morning, our guides will bring guests to specific points near the hotel, in order to locate various species of birds. Breakfast and preparation for departure.
In the last few hours before departure from the Achuar territory, guests can participate in a blowgun contest to demonstrate who is the best hunter among the guides and guests.
SHAMAN LIVE LEARNING – 4 days / 3 nights

Our guests will be picked up from their hotel in Quito beginning at 5:30 am with route to Shell approximately 4 hours in the land transportation (This service is not included on the rate).
Breakfast (Lunch Box) will be provided for every passenger. Short stops will be made during the trip for bathroom breaks and photo opportunities.
Once at Shell 09:30 am, our guests will be welcomed by our representatives and will be assisted onto aircrafts. The plane will rise 10:00 am passing by over pristine rainforest, after 50 minutes of the flight we will land strip of the local community.
We will receive a warm welcome by the Achuar people nuas (women) aishman (men) and Uchi (children) of the community accompanied with a refreshment beverage and after that, assignment of cabins on the first Block called Yutui (Conga ant) or second Block Apup (pink dolphin).
Lunch at Achuar Lodge and you will have time to relax in this awesome and peaceful place, to unpack, and situate themselves with the surroundings feeling different sounds of the majestic Amazon that share with us this special moment.
Afternoon: we will have a quiet activity in the wooden raft through of Pastaza River where we will have the opportunity to look at the pink dolphin.
We end the day with the Shaman Entsakua (man of the river) who will be waiting us to do the meditation at Pastaza River beaches and enjoying a beautiful sunset accompanied of parrots, macaws such as the Cobalt-Winged Parakeet, Chestnut- Fronted Macaw, Yellow Crowned Amazon.
At night after dinner, we are going to walk in search of nocturnal animals such as monkeys, alligators and birds. All this coupled with a fantastic starry sky Achuar.
Early morning we will have complete breakfast. Started our adventure purify our mind and body visiting the waterfalls of Arutam (god of the Amazon) walking 1 hour approximately with observation of wildlife.
Wanchaentsa (electric fish) and Uchientsa (small river) these two waterfalls are sacred because here find their god. The Shaman uses this place to be in touch with his god to get power and protection for the community.
For us like Apaches (person that belong to other culture) these purification treatments are to do meditation and take your mind off bad things and get pure and positive insights. We are going to get the class “Anem” that are party or emocional songs.
Finally back the lodge to have lunch only fruits and a lot of water for our fasting. During the lunch our guide will explicate about Tuntui ancestral drum that use to call the other communities around to do the Natem ritual together chewing Piyu (one leaf of the tree) It is practiced a lot of years ago by children from 8 years with their mothers, woman and men with the objective to get vision for the future and take of decision in the present.
At night, we are going to meet with Entsakua Shaman to start the Natem ceremony the direct connection with Arutam and the Amazon’s secrets.
Early morning we will be invited by the Shaman to complete the ritual with the Guayusada while we share with him all our dreams or visions for the interpretation.
Breakfast and departure in motor canoe by the Pastaza River to visit the ancestral Mente or Ceibo which is the old tree called for the community like uncle for the years of life together. During the walk we will look at variety of birds, monkeys and mammals such as Hoatzin, Aninga, Speckled Chachalaca, White Eared Jacamar, Cocoi Heron, Neotropical Cormorant, the Great Egret and others. (Picnic lunch in the forest).
After the lunch, we are going to visit one of the Achuar communities that is located close to the lodge. This is one of our most popular activities offered in this reserve, because of the significant cultural contribution to the Achuar people.
Guests will have opportunity to live this experience with the community and its members sharing their customs and some traditional handicrafts.

DOLPHIN RIVER EXPEDITION – 5 days / 3 nights
Pink river dolphins have survived for centuries due to the local belief that they possess magical powers that allowed them to be untouchable, now they are in danger of extinction in other areas.
According to Achuar legend, at night they turn into handsome gentlemen who seduce wives and daughters before returning to the river.

After the breakfast, departure to Napurak trail beginning with a 30 minute canoe trip to the beginning of the trail. Guests are kindly asked to be prepared for crossing some log bridges. This trip is combined with a canoe to Napurak River in order to observe the local wildlife along the river’s shoreline. Lunch will be provided during the trip.
